Straight Talk’s Transitional House serves men reentering society, and is the heart of the organization. STSG supports those formerly incarcerated by supporting them through every step of their transition. STSG focused on connecting residents to mental health and physical health providers, and substance abuse support. We also assist them secure housing and employment and resist negative influences. The house has room to house 18 men. A typical stay with the STSG program is 120 days. The transitional housing has furnished living spaces and common areas, such as: living room, kitchen area, dining area, and laundry room, as well as a basketball court for the residents to use as they please. STSG works with many community partnerships to ensure all residents receive appropriate referrals to other programs and services. Straight Talk provides educational programs teaching life skills, such as: mental health, finances, HIV/AIDS education, computer skills, resume building, substance abuse, anger management, etc. STSG aims to assist residents in reconnecting with family and offers mediation. STSG also organizes social activities for the residents to get out of the house together and enjoy some fun activities together. Each resident gets a Peer Support Specialist upon entry to the transitional house. We aim to reduce recidivism rates among the people we work with. We want people to get out of prison and stay out!
